Our esteemed friend, Chikara Mishna, enjoyed his trip in the United States in late May and early June. Chikara is a well known individual in the world of Deaf Golf because he made a tremendous contribution as the Tournament Director of the 2012 World Deaf Golf Championships (WDGC), held at the Tsu Country Golf Club in Japan last October. He has organized several golf tournaments in Japan including the Disabled Golf tournaments at the Tsu Country Golf Club.

After the resounding success in Tsu City, Chikara deserves a hard-earned vacation in the United States. Early in his travel, he took the time to visit the Grand Traverse Golf Resort in Traverse City, Michigan. This site will be the venue for the 2014 WDGC. Darrell Hovinen, one of the 2014 WDGC chairs, helped make the arrangement at the resort. Chikara is very impressed with the resort and was quoted, with his humility in sharing his opinion, in his email, “I think the 2014 WDGC will be very exciting and better than the 2012 WDGC.”

The WDGF Board is pleased to hear of his assessment on the resort but still believes that Chikara’s tournament has raised the bar and each WDGC is a success on its own.

The next leg of his trip was the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio. Chikara enjoyed his week as a spectator at the annual PGA tournament. Jack Nicklaus is the founder and host of the Memorial Tournament. He presented the championship trophy to the 2013 winner Matt Kuchar, who won by 2 strokes in a very close competition. Approximately 120 pros including Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, Mike Weir and KJ Choi played at the tournament. During the week, Chikara had the honour to meet and chat with Mr. Nicklaus. For sure, this is the highlight of Chikara’s vacation!

Chikara travelled back home safe and sound recently and was kind enough to share the photo with the WDGF Board.

The WDGF Board wishes to thank Chikara for sharing his highlights of his vacation.
